What is auricular acupuncture?

Ear acupuncture is an independent micro-system of acupuncture, not unlike foot reflexology, where points on the ear act as reflex points for the whole body.

01

A community tradition

Ear acupuncture became famous in its ability to treat drug addiction, cravings, and withdrawal symptoms in a community setting.

02

A wide range of protocols

Other protocols have since been developed to address insomnia, anxiety, stress-related symptoms, pain, smoking cessation, menstrual disorders and PMS, as well as general wellness and preventative care.

03

Your acupuncturist

From 2016-2020, Dr. Corrigan completed part of her clinical training at the Community Ear Acupuncture Project in the Bay Area and brings that auricular experience to every clinic.

Ear acupuncture FAQ

What can ear acupuncture help with?

The most common health conditions that are benefited by ear acupuncture are pain, addiction, weight loss, stress, anxiety, PMS, digestive issues, and depression. There is also a special ear acupuncture protocol for addiction and substance abuse recovery.

How does it work?

Small, thin needles are inserted 1-3mm into the external ear while the patient is comfortably seated.

How long does it take?

Needles are retained for 20-40 minutes.

Does it hurt?

Initial sensation can range from nothing to a sting, a pinch, a sensation of heat, or pressure. The ear may redden or lightly bleed when the needle is withdrawn; this is normal.

How should I prepare?

Be sure to have eaten something the day of your appointment, and come hydrated.

Prefer private sessions or telemedicine?

Private one-hour sessions begin with an initial acupuncture consultation. Non-contact telemedicine for herbs, supplements, and dietary recommendations begins with an initial telemedicine consultation.
